The Gilbert & Sullivan Society  :  Manchester

Notices  :  Tuesday 7th October 2008

1) Remember next month’s meeting will be on a Sunday afternoon, November 2nd at 2.30 pm, when the one and only Thomas Round will entertain us with his presentation “My Life with the D’Oyly Carte” – images and recorded music and chat and reminiscences and possibly a little live singing.  This will surely be a very special afternoon with this great performer.  Bring friends if you can.  Admission £5 for members and £7 for visitors.

2) There is a mistake on the printed programme card, John Owen Edwards’ visit will be on Janury 11th, not the 18th, as on the card.  Please amend your card and diary – we would hate you to miss it.

3) Remember the next Society G&S Convention Weekend will be at Grim’s Dyke, Harrow, April 3/4/5 2009, the weekend before Easter.  Programme and booking forms will be with the November magazine.

4) The annual concert featuring members of the original D’Oyly Carte Opera Company and friends, “The Very Best of Gilbert and Sullivan”, formerly known as the Magic of G&S, will be on Sunday 28th December at 3.00 pm.  Cast list; Charlotte Page (soprano), Victoria Byron (mezzo), Jill Pert (contralto), Stephen Brown (tenor), Alistair Donkin (baritone), Bruce Graham (bass-baritone) and Donald Maxwell (bass-baritone).  The Gilbert & Sullivan Chorus and Orchestra.  Conductor Fraser Goulding.  Tickets £29.50, £26.50, £22.50, £17.00.

5) If you have not yet paid your subscription for this year, which started in April, please see our Treasurer Wilf in the interval, £15.00 (or £7.50 for junior / student).  Cheques payable to The Gilbert & Sullivan Society, Manchester.

6) Chris Browne has for sale copies of Tony Joseph’s latest book, on Fred Billington, who performed the Pooh-Bah roles with D’Oyly Carte from 1879 to 1917, and Chris has some other goodies for sale – see him. (Click here to connect to Chris's online site)
